Is what happened between the interior of the Disco 3 and the Disco 4
Massive amounts of leather.

I..... Like them both
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:11 |

Me too. The Disco 3 is more traditional Disco, the 4 is more Range Rover.

I used to have a Disco 4. The seats were lovely, and the leather parts of the dash and doors felt great, but some plastic parts still felt really cheap. I liked the slight art-deco type thing going on as well.

I've been lusting over them recently as they are becoming more attainable (prices here are double that of other countries). I nearly bought an armored Disco 3 but evently got the Tribeca.

I like them both too, one is more rugged and functional while the other (like G_Body_man said) is more Rangie.
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:22 |

I can promise you the Tribeca is more fun. Disco 3/4's are really nice motors, but slightly soulless IMO. I feel bad for buying it and I feel sad for getting rid of it, but I never loved it.

the 3 looks exactly how I'd want it to, tough and rugged but still a more well put together than the average off-roader.
The 4 looks like what I'd actually buy haha. Luxurious, comfortable, and refined.

great way to put it. Wouldn't mind either as my winter "beater" now that we are forecasted snow tomorrow!
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:25 |

I can understand that, they don't have that character the Disco 2 had or the Rangies have. What did you replace it with?

not improved.

Didn't, still looking! I have the other two Landys and the Alfa but I need something practical. If you can remember, you were helping me search UK Autotrader...!
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:32 |

The Disco 3 (LR3) is starting to fall into my price range for a used 4x4 and that interior looks awful good...

Ah, of course I do! That was the day I finally understood taxes on cars in the UK. Have you narrowed the possibilities down?
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:38 |

That I agree with, the 9 speed is very wonky

I like yanking and smashing down on a real handbrake lever. I like the clicks too. Lol.
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:38 |

I nearly bought one, but my fear spoke louder and I bought a Tribeca.
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:43 |

Honestly haven't been looking recently. I run my own business and it was the first day of work today, so ever since Christmas I've managed to find plenty to do! Gonna start looking again in Feb once everything else is in order.
Yeh, the UK taxes are slightly confusing on older cars as they vary dependant on registration date. I'm sorta still thinking Alfa 159 diesel estate :)
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:47 |
|
I was in Switzerland for the last few weeks, so many 159 estates and Audi RS6s being driven by 80 years olds. The 159 a very pretty car and a very good choice!
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:52 |
|
Haha I'd take the RS6 Avant instead though, in a heartbeat. All the same, the Alfa is a looker, and it's fairly good on fuel/tax/insurance, so I might be the guy with two Land Rovers and two Alfa Romeos. I'm going to be the electrical gremlin's best mate, and Mr Corrosion's room mate

You beat me in the unreliability game, my air suspension Citroens are no match for your Italian and English duos. Although the future S8 might eventually become the least reliable car I will ever own.

Heywhatfutures8?
![]() 01/05/2015 at 19:58 |

I finished the payments on my C4 Sedan in december, so I did the only logical choice and am going to replace it with an armored 2000 Audi S8 with 47k miles.
![]() 01/05/2015 at 20:03 |

Dude, definitely an excellent choice. That is my uninformed opinion, I goddamn love that car. How is Brazilian law for offensive vehicular weaponry?
![]() 01/05/2015 at 20:06 |

I was between that and a also armored Rangie P38. I don't think they allow that, but maybe some deployable spikes and smoke screen are ok?
![]() 01/05/2015 at 20:11 |
|
While the S8's aren't excellent in terms of reliability, they are good. With the Range Rover you'd inherit a lot of problems; nature of the beast I'm afraid. The P38's are going super cheap over here now because they cost so much to keep running. You made the right decision! Have you found the one you want?

Haha yes, one of only two for sale in my state.

Probably a smarter choice. Our needs are perhaps different, though - I'm looking to do something like this with a 4x4:
I'm not sure a Tribeca would get the job done.

Probably not

My Spanish isn't great, but from what i can work out, that thing is fully loaded! Amazing what you could get in a premium car in the 2000's. Oh and by the way, I love it, buy it, drive it [nicely], write about it.
![]() 01/05/2015 at 20:29 |

I will only drive it on weekends (or when the C5 decides not to work). It has solar cells on the sunroof so you can leave the AC on without turning the engine on!

Mine has a cigarette lighter socket, which I only installed yesterday. I win!

I'll do it until the end of this month!

Then again, there's no guarantee that a Disco is the right machine for the job, either:
![]() 01/05/2015 at 20:50 |

But there is:

Visually, looks like a side-grade to me.

My friend has a Disco 3. I can safely say that the interior, while nice enough, is not what I expected. Disco 4 is much better.
![]() 01/05/2015 at 22:07 |

We have a Disco 3 as a family car and I adore the interior , much more then the Disco 4.
Its just so rugged in a "not trying to imitate ruggedness" sort of way . Great cupholders , Storage, big chunky buttons, Navigation that just does navigation. and a nice floppy 6 speed Manual that feels like something from a truck.
I just love the feel of the buttons
A good solid push.
mmm british

My disco 4 I love it's great does everything I need

I've seen one in action back in december and it was handling great, between stock and highly modified Jeep and Toyota. But it have done that in a luxurious manner! Unfortunately I do not have a action pic or video to show...

Yeah, they're super capable and with the fancy brake-assisted gizmos you can (in theory) go a long way before you need a rear locker - just keep the revs up to 2500+.
I'm going to take a look at this one on Friday or Saturday, but only if the service records are available:
http://www.spinellinissan.com/fr/occasion/la…
If they don't have service records, there are just too many unknowns and I'll go back to looking at 4Runners!
![]() 01/06/2015 at 09:58 |

It looks like the vehicle have been towed behind a RV, as the 2 small brackets in the front bumper suggest.
I heard of some reliability issue for some LR product (I do not know if it's applicable to a Disc3), but a 10 yo truck and 150k+ kms will need some maintenance and I guess LR is not cheap to repair? And that not every mechanics are knowlegeable about them.
I do love the 4Runner, as you know, for it's size and reliability. For about the same vintage, mileage and price, you can get a 4Runner with some gizmos (DAC, Center diff Lock, etc), the Toyota reliability and broader range of aftermarket products.

Oh, I work in Pointe-Claire, so if you want to see a 2010 4Runner Trail Edition, I can show you mine. If you ever find one in your budget ;) They do have one like mine at Spinelli Toyota (a 2011 model) but priced over 32k$!
![]() 01/06/2015 at 13:02 |
|
Those two little bolts are probably for the factory plastic brush guard - my guess is that it was cracked or broken, and the truck is more presentable without it.
The LR have a couple of known problems: air suspension (easily swapped out), exploding diffs (check service records for previous replacement and good maintenance), and electrical gremlins (not much you can do there). The price is decent for an SE w/7 seats, so I'm gonna look and see how it feels.

I'm looking at something a bit older in a 4Runner, in the 2003 - 2005 range. Still trying to respect that $10k budget!
![]() 01/06/2015 at 13:14 |

Make sure that theses things doesn't break your budget right after you buy it ;)

Yeah, i know... Let me dream a little ok?
![]() 01/06/2015 at 14:06 |
|
Hey Dream BIG!!
But seriously, think about maintenance cost of the vehicle. I used to own a 25+ years old Toyota Land Cruiser Diesel and it was a money pit just to get to par on the maintenance, but I knew it beforehand and it wasn't my daily driver.
![]() 01/06/2015 at 14:23 |

Yeah, the 4Runner is still top of the list even though I'd really like to have the option of a 7-seater.
I just got off the phone with Spinelli Nissan and they don't have the service history for the vehicle. They salesperson I spoke to said she will talk to her manager and see if they can get in touch with the previous owner. If I can't be sure the diff has been replaced it's a no-go.
But, wait! There's a really handsome 2004 Disco II at a Chrysler dealer on Des Sources that looks pretty nice...
![]() 01/06/2015 at 15:32 |
|
The 4th & 5 Gen (2003-Current) 4Runner SR5 and Limited had the options for a 3rd row, you just have to find one.
The one at Des Sources Chrysler looks nice.
![]() 01/06/2015 at 18:52 |
|
Yeah, but they're maintenance nightmares. Beautiful, luxurious nightmares. As they say, "if it's not leaking, it's 'cause it's run dry."
The 3rd row was a US-only option for the 4th gen, or at least it was for the first few years.

Toyota Offroad Québec did a run on december 29th:
